2008 Alamos Malbec, Argentina $13

Of all the producers in Argentina, Alamos is one of the best most consistent, I cannot remember the last time I had a bad wine from them. This wine is 90% Malbec, 5% Cabernet, and 5% Bonarda, with the latter two used for additional color and depth. On the nose the aromas explode, layers of plum, white pepper and clove. The flavors followed the aromas and additional layers of raspberry and notes of oak and leather. The finish keeps the dark fruit alive and adds additional notes cocoa powder. All of the flavors combine and hang on the tongue perfectly letting each have its own turn to shine. This wine would work perfectly with steak or other hearty menus.
