St. Supery and Taste Live on Twitter
Last night was one of the funniest online tastings that I can remember
in a long time. On Tastelive.com the winemaker and other staff from St
Supery winery were on hand to taste 4 of their wines. It was amazing
to see over 100 people using twitter to taste and talk about the wines
with excellent comments and observations. To bring it all together
perfectly @mmWine was also doing a live video feed and if you are on
twitter you need to follow him and watch some of the videos, extremely
helpful and great observations, he provides a wealth of information in
a fun and approachable way. Well, with all that being said here are
some of my notes on the wines, and check out their website
Tastelive.com, follow and check out @mmwine on twitter, and defiantly
grab some of these wines!
2008 St Supery Sauvignon Blanc $20
This was an extremely fresh and vibrant wine, loads of grapefruit and
lime zest in each sip. The acidity kept the fruit alive and fresh, in
addition to providing an excellent wine for summer menus. This wine
had all the classic flavors you would find in a New Zealand Sauv Blanc
and allot of the fresh fruit notes you find in New world versions. No
oak so just great fruit flavors. A very well made wine easily a 89
point or better wine.
2006 St Supery Virtu Meritage $30
This wine starts with some classic Semillon aromas, vanilla, pear, and
peach fill the glass and evolve on the taste buds. The flavors were
out of this world, layers of creamy lemon custard, some nuttiness,
dried apricot notes, and just the right hint of acidity. I commented
during the tasting that this wine is like a lady with class and money,
terrific all the time and a classy act to be seen with. This is a
definite wine to have on hand, 91 points
2004 St Supery Napa Cabernet Sauvignon $30
If you are looking for a wine that taste like a $75 to $100 bottle for
half or a third of that price than you have found your new love.
Terrific black plums, dark chocolate, some spice, and a good tannin
structure balanced by subtle layers of oak and dark jam flavors,
flowed with each sip. This wine would drink well now or even in 5-10
years. A real winner, no questions asked, easily a 92 point wine or
better.
2008 St Supery Moscato $18
Now this was a terrific ending to an evening, layers of honeysuckle
and white peaches flowed across the mouth with a very nice and not
overpowering sweetness. Ripe white fruit and summer floral aromas stay
alive in each sip. This is a terrific dessert, appetizer, or anytime
wine if you are looking for something not overly sweet but layered
with soft summer fruit flavors. One of the better Moscato's I have
tasted from California in a long time, 86 points.
