2006 Clos La Chance Lila Cuvee Red, California $40

I can sum this wine up in one word, WOW! The flavors were layered and expressive and delivered like red velvet in each sip. This is a Rhone style blend made with the following grapes 40% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Carignane, 15% Alicante Bouchet, and 5% each of Cinsault and Petite Sirah.  Aromas of dark black plum and smokey bacon fill the glass and lead into a complex and layered tasting experience. Good tannins are balanced with lush hints of vanilla and creaminess that balance the lush red fruit and spice. The finish has just the right amount of oak and a touch of mint to balance the fruit and tannins. This is a truly exceptional wine that can continue to age for the next 5-8 years or can be enjoyed now with decanting.
