This is a category of wine that is often overlooked when think about a menu, and it is ashame, these wines can add a whole new depth to any meal and make a get together an event to remember. With a toffee like color the aromas fill the air immediately after pouring, with layers of dried figs, caramel, and walnut taking charge. The flavors are deep without being clinging or overpowering. Like waves, sensations of dried red fruit, and a toffee like wood flavor flow over the taste buds with everything lingering for just the right amount of time on the finish. This will pair well with medium bodied cheeses or dried fruits and nuts or even dark chocolate.
You are right. Port is too often overlooked but shouldn't be when there are so many great selections such as this one!
